Material selection course that processing plants must master
How do you answer when a customer asks you 'Why use aluminum?'
Manufacturers of aluminum roofing sheets, aluminum ceilings, and aluminum panels are often asked by customers: 'Why use aluminum? Corrugated steel sheets are so much cheaper, and aren't resin sheets lighter?'
If your answer is simply 'aluminum is better,' then you will most likely lose this order.
Ⅰ. How do you answer the three most frequently asked questions by customers?
The customer asked, 'Corrugated steel sheets are so much cheaper, why should I use aluminum?'
A: Each time you replace the roof tiles, you have to remove the old ones, clear them out, and reinstall them – the total cost of three times is much higher than that of replacing aluminum roof tiles once.
The customer asked, 'Aren't resin tiles lighter?'
A: Resin tiles are indeed lightweight, but they have four problems: First, they are susceptible to sun damage, fading and aging in 5-8 years due to ultraviolet rays; second, they are not fireproof, being B1 grade and easily flammable when exposed to fire; third, they are not recyclable, becoming construction waste after removal; and fourth, they have a large coefficient of expansion, resulting in significant dimensional changes in summer and winter, and leaks are likely to occur at the joints.
The customer asked, 'Aren't colored stone metal roofing tiles more attractive than aluminum roofing tiles?'
A: Colored stone metal roofing tiles use aluminum-zinc coated steel sheets as the base material, and corrosion protection of the cut edges is a weakness.
II. One table to understand: Roll-coated aluminum coils vs. three major competitors
Comparison Dimensions | Roll-coated aluminum coils | Corrugated steel sheets | ASA resin | Colored Stone Metal Tiles |
Substrate | 3003/5052 aluminum alloy + roll coating | Galvanized steel sheet + coating | ASA/APVC resin | Aluminized zinc steel sheet + colored sand |
Corrosion prevention principle | The aluminum substrate has its own oxide film and is self-healing. | Relying on coatings and galvanized layers, damage will lead to rust. | The material itself is corrosion resistant | Substrate + Colored Sand Protection |
Weight (kg/m²) | 3-8 | 8-16 | 4-6 | 8-10 |
Service life | 20-30 years | 5-10 years | 15-25 years | 30 years or more |
Fire resistance rating | Class A Non-combustible | Grade A | B1 level | Grade A |
Total life cycle cost | lowest | Highest (requires frequent replacement) | medium | medium |
III. When selecting roll-coated aluminum coils for processing plants, three indicators should be considered for coating quality.
If a customer decides to use aluminum, you need to know how to make that decision.
Indicator 1: Coating uniformity – determines color difference and surface finish
Pain points for processing plants : The color of the boards is inconsistent after they are installed on the wall, and they look 'discolored' in the sunlight, causing customers to refuse to pay the final payment.
Suppliers are required to provide online thickness measurement data ; the coating thickness deviation of high-quality roller-coated plates should be ≤ ±0.002mm.
Visual inspection : Under natural light, tilt the board surface; it should be smooth without orange peel texture or drips.
Indicator 2: Coating adhesion (T-bend test) – Does it crack when bent?
Pain points for processing plants : paint cracking during bending, high scrap rate, and delays in production.
A T-bend test report is required . High-quality roller-coated sheets should show no paint peeling between 0T and 3T.
Take a small sample and perform a bending test yourself : bend it 180° and observe whether the coating cracks at the bend.
Indicator 3: Coating weather resistance – How quickly does it fade?
Pain point for processing plants : Customers report that the boards fade quickly ?
An accelerated aging test report is required ; the PVDF coating should have an ≥4000-hour aging time.
A salt spray test report is required ; the PVDF coating should withstand ≥1000 hours.
DIXXIN can guarantee : PVDF coating with fluorocarbon content ≥70% and 20-year weather resistance. Third-party testing reports are available for each batch.
IV. Three Material Selection Suggestions for Processing Plants
Recommendation 1: Select base materials according to the end-user project.
For general inland factory buildings: 1060 or 3003 are sufficient, with cost-effectiveness as the priority.
Coastal projects or high-requirement buildings: 5052 or 3004 stainless steel, corrosion resistance preferred.
For applications requiring punching/complex shapes: materials with an elongation of ≥14% are preferred.
Recommendation 2: Select coating based on the usage environment.
Indoor/Short-term projects: Polyester coating (PE), 8-10 years is sufficient.
Outdoor general projects: Silicone-modified polyester (SMP), 10-12 years
Coastal/High UV/Landmark Buildings: Fluorocarbon Coating (PVDF), 20+ years
Recommendation 3: Choose a supplier who understands processing.
A truly smooth working relationship means that the supplier understands your processing methods, equipment parameters, and common problems, and can proactively provide targeted advice. If your supplier can do this, it shows that they are serious about this industry.
V. Three 'Stabilities' DIXXIN Offers You
In the processing industry, the biggest fear is unstable materials—not that the materials are more expensive, but that what could be done in the previous batch cannot be done in this batch; the scrap rate fluctuates wildly as production line parameters are constantly adjusted.
Stability 1: Genuine material, no recycled materials used.
DIXXIN Optoelectronics provides a spectral analysis report with each batch of aluminum coils. We don't handle recycled waste materials; it's not a cost issue, it's a matter of principle. Processing plants feel secure using our products.
Stability 2: Complete specifications, no need to piece things together.
DIXXIN keeps multiple alloy grades such as 1060/3003/5052 in stock, with thicknesses ranging from 0.2-2.0mm and widths from 800-1600mm. One call is all it takes to get all the specifications. DIXXIN Group's products also cover a full range including roll-coated aluminum coils, aluminum ceiling panels, and aluminum single-panel panels . With its own aluminum coil raw material plant, the entire supply chain is under control, from source to finished product.
Stability 3: Strict quality control, no need to worry.
Each roll undergoes online thickness measurement, shape inspection, surface inspection, and adhesion testing before leaving the factory. Rolls that fail the tests are not shipped.
